What a great day to be out on the water. It was warm, sunny and very friendly, surfable waves of 2-3 feet, with a couple of 4-5 feet, just in front of Monterey Bay Kayaks.
We had two long boats, two SOT surf boats and one river boat and we all got rides, as many as we wanted. With the exception of John, we all had a chance to join the WSK swim team.
John: It was a great session with unexpectedly big waves so close to MBK. I should mention the whale sighting. Near the beginning of the session, when I was still on the beach, I happened to see a spout just off the harbor. After a few seconds it happened again. It seemed like a smaller whale - maybe a lost juvenile or maybe the minke whale that has been spotted in the bay recently.
Mark: Seemed like one of the resident MBK seals enjoyed having company in the surf, be it kayaks or a class of 15 scuba divers practicing surf rescues and swimming without tanks. I definitely made big strides on side surfing. Discovered that when you're upside down in 4' of water that you really can't quite brace off the bottom, maybe it's time to take some roll classes…
We toasted the day over lunch at the Haute Enchilada in Moss Beach. Thanks again to all who came out. A fun day was had by all.
